1.Minimum age
PopIn is intended for users aged 13 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13.
Every account holder is required to provide a date of birth during signup. PopIn also complies with the Australian Online Safety Amendment (Social Media Minimum Age) Act 2024 and applies an age verification gate before users can access social features (posts, comments, reactions, events, messages, stories).
If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will delete that information immediately. To request removal, contact safety@popin.events.
2.Our policy
The following content and conduct is strictly prohibited on PopIn:
- Any material that sexually exploits or abuses children, including imagery, text, audio, or video
- Solicitation, grooming, or any contact with minors for sexual purposes
- Sharing identifying information about minors for the purpose of contact or exploitation
- Linking to external sites that contain CSAM
- Any conduct that would constitute an offence under the laws of Australia, the United States, or other jurisdictions where PopIn operates
Violations result in immediate account termination, removal of the offending content, retention of relevant material for evidentiary purposes, and reporting to the appropriate authorities.
3.How we prevent CSAE on PopIn
PopIn applies the following measures to prevent child sexual abuse and exploitation on the platform:
Age verification
All account holders must provide a date of birth during signup. Accounts that fail age verification cannot access social features. The age verification gate is enforced server-side on every action that creates social content.
Content moderation
All user-generated content (posts, comments, messages, event descriptions, profile fields, photos, videos, stories) is subject to moderation. We use an AI-assisted triage system to prioritise reports for human review, and an admin team reviews flagged content and takes action on policy violations.
Reporting tools
Every user can report any content or other user from within the app. Reports are routed to the moderation queue. Users can also block other users to prevent contact and visibility entirely.
Privacy by default
The PopIn feed surfaces content only from mutual friends. There is no public discovery feed. Profile visibility, date-of-birth visibility, and friend-only event settings let users restrict who can see their content.
No public discovery of minors
PopIn does not surface minor accounts in search results or suggested-friends lists to adults outside the user's existing social graph.
4.How to report a concern
If you encounter content or conduct on PopIn that you believe constitutes child sexual abuse, exploitation, or grooming, report it as soon as possible. You can use any of the following channels:
In-app report
Long-press any post, comment, message, or profile and tap Report. Choose the category that best fits. The report goes to our moderation queue immediately.
Send details to safety@popin.events. Include screenshots, usernames, and timestamps where possible. Do not attach any CSAM itself; describe what you saw, when, and where.
Block plus report
You can also block the user from their profile or your settings to prevent further contact while the report is reviewed.
Direct to authorities
For urgent matters or when criminal conduct is involved, contact a national authority directly:
- Australia: Report to the eSafety Commissioner at esafety.gov.au/report
- United States: Report to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) CyberTipline at report.cybertip.org
- Other countries: INHOPE maintains a global directory of national hotlines at inhope.org
- Emergency: If a child is in immediate danger, contact your local police
6.Designated point of contact
For all matters relating to child safety, CSAE prevention, and our compliance with these standards, contact:
Email: safety@popin.events
The designated contact is available to respond to questions from users, researchers, regulators, and law enforcement about PopIn's CSAE prevention practices.
7.Updates to these standards
We review these standards at least annually and update them when our practices change, when new legal requirements take effect, or when we identify opportunities to improve. The Last updated date at the top of this page reflects the most recent change.
Material changes will be communicated through in-app notifications and via the popin.events blog.
