Sign-up takes under a minute. You'll need an email or phone number, a display name, a username, a password, and your date of birth.
PopIn requires you to be 16 or older. This is an Australian online safety law (Online Safety Amendment (Social Media Minimum Age) Act 2024). We collect your date of birth at sign-up to verify it.
Open the sign-up page
Go to popin.events/signup or tap "Pop in for free" from the landing page.
Fill in your details
Your display name is what friends see. Your @username is your handle (lowercase letters, numbers, and underscores; 3-30 characters). Date of birth is required and used only for the age check.
Pick a password
At least 8 characters. Anything you can remember works.
Verify your email
PopIn sends a verification link to the address you signed up with. The link expires after 24 hours; if you miss it, hit Resend on the verification screen.
That's it. You can finish your profile later, there's no required photo, bio, or interest selection to get started.
If a friend sent you an invite link, signing up from that link automatically connects you to them as a friend request. No "find friends" step needed.
Verification and what to expect after signup
Right after you sign up, PopIn sends a verification email or SMS to confirm you control the address you signed up with. The link expires in 24 hours; if you miss it, hit Resend on the verification screen. Until you've verified, you can sign in but can't host events or post.
The first time you sign in after verifying, PopIn auto-creates your public profile using the username you picked. If that username was taken in the meantime (rare but possible), we'll add a short suffix and you can change it later from Settings → Account.
If something goes wrong
The most common signup snag is a typo in the email address. If you don't get the verification email within 60 seconds, check spam, then check the address you typed (a stray space is the usual culprit). You can also restart signup with a different email; nothing's locked to your first attempt until you complete verification.
Why we ask for email or phone
One of email or phone is required because PopIn needs at least one way to reach you for sign-in verification and password resets. We don't sell, share, or use these contact details for advertising. You can add the other later in Settings → Account for fallback access. Multiple sign-in options also let you recover the account if you ever lose access to one of them.
