PopIn's notifications work on two layers: tiers (how urgent something is) and channels (push, email, SMS). Manage both in Settings → Notifications.
The four tiers
| Tier | What it covers | Default channels | Bypasses quiet hours? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tier 1 - Critical | Event invites, updates, cancellations, host broadcasts, reminders, security alerts | Push + Email + SMS | Yes |
| Tier 2 - High | Friend requests, RSVPs to your events, mentions, comments, replies | Push + Email | No |
| Tier 3 - Standard | Reactions, new followers, new messages, posts from people you follow | Push only | No |
| Tier 4 - Low priority | Batched summaries | Email only | No |
You can't fully silence Tier 1, at least one channel must stay on. We're not letting you turn off "your event was cancelled" by accident.
The three channels
| Channel | Where it shows up | Cost to you |
|---|---|---|
| Push | Browser + installed app notifications | Free |
| Your inbox | Free | |
| SMS | Text message | Carrier fees may apply on your end |
If you're frequently overseas, lean on push + email and drop SMS. International SMS can be slower and less reliable.
Common tweaks
Quiet hours
Hold the interrupting alerts (push and SMS) overnight, everything except Tier 1. Default is 22:00 to 08:00 in your timezone. See Setting quiet hours.
Master mute
At the top of Settings → Notifications. Silences everything except critical alerts. Good for holidays or focus weeks.
Updates from PopIn
Controls for platform announcements: show them in your feed, notify you when one drops, and per-channel switches for push, email, and SMS. Mix and match however you like. See Updates from PopIn.
Per-type controls
Each channel for each tier has its own toggle, so you can (say) turn Tier 3 push off while keeping the rest. Turning a tier's channel off turns it off for every type in that tier.
Where notifications appear in-app
Even with push/email/SMS off for a type, PopIn still records the notification in your notifications list. Quiet hours and channel-offs only affect the alerts that interrupt you; nothing is discarded.
