Most events on PopIn are totally fine. Sometimes one isn't - scam fundraisers, hate-group meetups, dangerous misinformation. Report them and our team will take a look.
Report an event
Open the event page
Either from the event link, a notification, or your guest list.
3-dot menu (top right) → Report event
The reporting dialog opens with the reason list.
Pick a reason and add context
Spam, harassment, hate speech, dangerous misinformation, illegal activity, or "something else". Links or screenshots in the detail field are especially helpful for events.
Submit
Anonymous - the host isn't told who reported. Moderators usually review within 24 hours.
What we look for in event reports
| Pattern | Action likely |
|---|---|
| Public events that should be private (e.g., underage gathering listed publicly) | Flip to private or remove |
| Events promoting illegal activity | Remove, host warned or suspended |
| Impersonation of public figures | Remove, host suspended |
| Hate-group meetups | Remove, host suspended |
| "Free crypto giveaway"-style scams | Remove, account banned |
| Edgy but legal humour, off-colour theme | Usually no action |
Possible outcomes
No action, public event flipped to private, event removed, or host warned / suspended / banned for repeat or severe violations. See how content moderation works for the full picture.
Auto-hide for high report volume
If multiple people report the same event, it's auto-hidden from search and recommendations while we review. Existing guests still see it (so people don't lose track of plans), but no new RSVPs can join.
If you were invited to an event you reported
You can still leave or change your RSVP normally - reporting doesn't automatically remove your invitation. If the report leads to the event being removed, all guests are notified that the event was cancelled by PopIn moderation (with a generic message that doesn't identify the reporter).
For threats of immediate violence, weapons, or other time-sensitive emergencies, contact local authorities as well. PopIn's moderation queue isn't a substitute for emergency services.
False reporting
Repeat false reports are flagged. The reporting account loses weight in moderation decisions, and persistent abuse can result in reporting privileges being limited. We notice patterns.
