Start from anywhere: the Create Event button in the nav, the empty-state CTA on your profile, or directly via popin.events/events/create.
Not sure which method to use? Vibe it out is faster for simple events ("dinner Friday at the ramen place"). The Manual form is better for events with specific logistics (capacity, dress code, BYO details).
Vibe it out vs Manual
| Vibe it out | Manual | |
|---|---|---|
| What you do | Describe the event in one sentence | Fill in each field |
| Time to publish | ~30 seconds | ~90 seconds |
| Best for | Casual or last-minute plans | Events with specific logistics |
| AI involved | Yes (Anthropic Claude) | No |
| Edit before publish | Yes, every field | Yes, every field |
Both flows end at the same place: a published event you can invite people to. See Vibe it out vs Manual create for the deeper comparison.
The fields
Title
Short and punchy. "Sat night drinks" beats "Saturday evening social gathering".
When
Pick a date, start time, and (optional) end time. PopIn handles your timezone automatically.
Where
Search a place name or paste an address. Google Places autocompletes. Or just type a freeform location like "my place" for friends-only events.
Description (optional)
Use it for what to bring, dress code, parking, or vibe notes.
Cover image (optional)
Up to 5MB. PopIn generates a gradient if you skip it.
Visibility
Pick from four options:
- Public: anyone with the link, plus surfaces in discovery
- Friends: your mutuals only
- Private: drafts and notes you keep to yourself
- Invite-only: just the people you add by email or phone
Publish straight away or save as a draft. Drafts live on your profile and never notify anyone.
Drafts vs published events
Saving as a draft leaves the event on your profile under Drafts. Drafts don't notify anyone, don't appear in any feed, and can't be RSVPd to (the shareable link 404s for everyone except you). When you're ready, hit Publish from the draft and it becomes a live event.
Editing after publishing
Every field is editable after you publish.
Changes to date, time, or location automatically notify guests who RSVPd Going or Maybe so nobody shows up at the wrong place. Cosmetic edits (description tweaks, adding a cover photo) don't generate notifications.
The visibility setting can only be downgraded freely (e.g., Public to Friends); upgrading to a wider audience asks for confirmation, so you can't accidentally expose the guest list.
Capacity vs visibility
Capacity (max guest count) is separate from visibility (who can see it). A 20-person public event still has everyone-with-the-link able to view the page; the capacity just caps confirmed RSVPs.
Next: invite people
Once you've published, see Inviting people without a PopIn account for the full guest experience.
